Communications Action Team

Members of group:  Janet Alcorn

Overall purpose/goal:  To communicate with members and non-members, the opportunities CSDC (and, when appropriate, NSDC) makes available in the state of Colorado

Some Actions this committee will take:

ACTION #1
Action:  Advertise all CSDC events to members, Key Communicators (1-2 people per school district who have agreed to disseminate CSDC information to people in their districts), and non-members who have attended a CSDC event in the past.

Rationale:  Really?  Do I have to answer this?

Logistics:  Janet will get information from presenters, develop flyers and distribute to members and key communicators; Janet will get information to MaryAnn who will get it put on the website.  Would like to increase the advertising time this year.

Expected results: Increased attendance at our CSDC events; possible increased membership

ACTION #2
Action:  Increase Key Communicator list to include charter schools and private/parochial schools in Colorado

Rationale:  Teachers/Administrators in these schools need much of the information we are sharing

Logistics:  Janet will have her secretary begin phone calls to the appropriate people to get the names/offices so we know where to send the info.

Expected results: Increased attendance from this population for our CSDC events; possible increased membership

ACTION #3
Action:  Develop a CSDC newsletter that would be emailed to CSDC members and key communicators (This will be come an action if we can find someone who will take on this project.  I cannot take this on)

Rationale:  While we have a website, I am not sure that many CSDC members (nor key communicators) go to this site for information unless they are registering for an event.  Something more direct, that goes to people’s emails might get them more interested in what CSDC is doing.
Logistics:  Janet will work with whoever wants to take this on to make it happen.  Janet will take care of emailing it to members/key communicators.  This would maybe be a quarterly type of thing…maybe only twice a year to start.

Expected results:  Increased participation in CSDC events, possible increased membership, increased awareness of CSDC and what we do

Correlation with NSDC’s Expectations:

Expectation #1:
Increasing membership (including reaching out to charter schools, parochial schools and private schools).
Making sure that all flyers explain the rationale for the presentation/conference/event in relation to CSDC/NSDC goals

Expectation #2:
We will be examining our membership, looking for holes and trying to target districts/schools that we think would benefit from CSDC offerings.

Expectation #3:
My committee’s work is about advertising/communicating what CSDC is doing and why…so what we do showcases examples of effective professional learning and supports those who will benefit from this knowledge

Expectation #4:
We get the word out about what CSDC is doing/stands for; we contact district level administrators to get out the word to people in their districts

Expectation #5:
We are part of the greater discussion in CSDC about how to utilize technology to serve our members better
