Sustainable Leadership:
“Instructional Leadership Roles for Coaches & Administrators”

Cindy Harrison - January 24, 2006

“Inspiring.”
“Outstanding.”
“One of the most beneficial trainings I’ve attended this year.”

Those were just a few of the written comments received at the close of Cindy Harrison’s workshop. It was a day packed with valuable information & conversation focused on the nine instructional leadership roles that coaches and administrators must undertake to engage their schools in meaningful reform. From “instructional supporter” to” catalyst for change”, participants explored the responsibilities of each role and the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful in each.

The afternoon focused on the role of ”data coach”, since data dialogues among teachers and administrators are essential to advancing student achievement. Participants gained a variety of tools for engaging in data dialogues with teachers, including creating a culture for “safe” and productive data discussions

Participants engaged in rich conversations. They came from a variety of locations: Agate, Greeley, Yuma, Mapleton, Adams 12, Adams 50, Cherry Creek, Aurora, Academy District 20, District R-104, BOCES, Sheridan, Mapleton, The Center, and Tointon Institute. And these professionals represented teachers, coaches, directors and administrators. What an outstanding opportunity to learn from colleagues, as well as from Cindy.
