Sustainable leadership does no harm to and actively improves the surrounding environment by finding ways to share knowledge and resources with neighboring schools and local communities.
Key Question:
In our high stakes testing environment, how can we create schools that are sustainable and promote social justice?
Participant responses:
- In multi-level schools build collegiality and not competition among principals and teachers. “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
- Focus on rising up the whole as well as individuals like we do when teaching – Actions that will help all and differentiating to help everyone.
- Adopt the attitude that defies segregation from the community, but rather embraces its resources – encourage collegiality with all sources of knowledge.
- Place the testing in context.
- Minimize competition.
- There is no time success together. There must be a mindset.
- Keep in mind the “whole” of people (students and teachers alike).
- Keep in mind what is the very highest stakes?
- Find ways to shave what works – collaborate efforts.
- Find time to talk about similar issues and what works.
