Cultural Proficiency Conference A Big Success!

Kikanza RobinsNovember 2nd was a powerful day of learning with Kikanza Nuri Robins of The Robins Group from California.  Co-author of several books in the area of Cultural Proficiency, Kikanza used her skills as a compelling speaker and powerful listener to help participants understand the importance of becoming “culturally proficient”.  The day was spent learning about cultural proficiency and how to shape conversations around diversity.  Kikanza provided a blend of content interspersed with small group learning strategies and discussion.

It was evident from participant comments on evaluations that people valued the experience and learned new information.  According to participants, some of the most valuable aspects of the day included the following:

  • “This session put cultural respect on my personal radar.”
  • “Great activities to take back and use right away.”
  • “I really appreciated reflective conversations and participant directed instruction.”
  • “I loved the cultural proficiency continuum!”
  • “Dr. Robin’s insight and expertise were much appreciated.”
  • “Her closing remarks were awesome!”

In addition, the excellent food, comfortable facility and state-of-the-art technology added to the success of the day.  Thanks to Adams 12 for providing such an outstanding location.  And thanks to Lasting Impressions, the book seller who brought lots of relevant books and materials available for purchase.
